Milling Zone Designation

Based on your Milling Strategy, the Milling Zone Designation (Brush) tool allows the user to select special areas for additional milling operations. These operations may include, but are not limited to:

• Manual Designation of Undercut Areas
• Manual Designation of Facial Surfaces for B90 Degree Milling (Open Face C-Clamp Machining)
• Manual Designation of Anatomical Fissures for Secondary Anatomy Machining
• Etc...

Upon opening this tool, you will find a few different options for Milling Zones to select from - let's see how we can designate some undercuts on this Crown that has facial cutback surfaces:

Select Operation Type

***IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 90 DEGREE MILLING***: 

In the past - if you painted the surface when opening the offset, the optional operation groups available for designation with the Paint tool would differ. If you chose to paint the surfaces at this stage, you would be unable to designate other milling operations because this shifts the strategy to view the part from a 90-degree angle. In a recent update, the selection area for COP and 90° toolpaths can now be applied together on the same object. This is applicable for all MillBox Versions except for DGSHAPE Wet Mills.

In this case, we were able to save some time during calculation by skipping the need for the CAM to detect undercuts that show up at the Start Mill stage:

This button allows you to select from different types of operations (based on your situation) allowing you to paint / designate a surface for machining to be applied:

NOTE: When you are painting surfaces, the CAM will cut away a path from the material to provide clearance for the tool and machine to reach the designated zone.

Select Operation Type

• This menu lets you choose which operation you want to paint a path for. Once you've made your choice, any surfaces you paint will be grouped together. To add several machining operations from different angles, return to the operation selection and choose either the same operation type or another to activate / designate another group:

Fill Selection

• This Toggle Option allows you to paint a perimeter with the brush and the inside area will automatically be filled:

Paint Zone

• This allows you to paint surfaces
• A single-click will automatically fill the contiguous undercut:

Erase Painted Zones

• This allows you to erase painted surfaces

Zone Information

• While this selection is active, you can select different painted surfaces to see what type of operations they are assigned to

Delete selected zone

• This allows you to remove all of any one painted operation group

Clear All Zones

• This clears out all painted surfaces (Reset)
