🧠 What Are the Expert (Advanced) Features For?

MillBox is available in several versions, depending on how and where you obtained your license. If your software came bundled with a milling machine, it may be an OEM license, which typically comes in one of two configurations:

  • ECO (Locked Strategy)
  • Standard

To determine which version you have and how to access Expert (Advanced) Features, please contact your software distributor.

🔧 What Are Expert Features?

Expert Features are optional add-ons designed for users handling mid- to high-volume production or working with files from external labs, clinics, or companies. These tools are built to:

  • Boost productivity
  • Enhance quality assurance
  • Provide greater control and customization

🛠️ Expert Feature Highlight: Manually Edit Cavity Axis Angle

Available in v2022 and later

This feature allows you to manually adjust the cavity axis angle using an intuitive click-and-drag widget. Each time you change the insertion direction:

  • Offsets and undercuts are recalculated automatically
  • You can visually optimize the angle for best results

🛠️ Expert Feature Highlight: Prioritize Milling Order (Select Objects)

Available in v2019 and later

This feature allows you to select specific restorations from those already imported and nested within a job for immediate calculation. It’s especially useful for:

  • Batch milling setups in larger milling centers
  • Prioritizing urgent restorations in smaller labs

Once selected, the prioritized restorations are calculated and split into a separate job, allowing you to:

  • Begin milling right away
  • Continue working or nesting additional restorations in the original project without interruption

🛠️ Expert Feature Highlight: Easily Import Existing Interface Geometries into the Replace Library

Available in v2019 and later

This feature gives you the flexibility to import interface geometries into the Replace Library without needing to start a project. It’s ideal for users who want to:

  • Pre-load interfaces for future use
  • Maintain a clean, organized library of custom interfaces

Additionally, you can replace an existing interface in an active project with one of the imported geometries—streamlining your workflow and ensuring consistency across cases.

🛠️ Expert Feature Highlight: Easily Copy / Rip Interface Data from Restorations

Available in v2019 and later

This feature allows you to extract and save interface connections directly from restorations imported into MillBox. With just a few clicks, you can:

  • Select an object within your project
  • Export its interface connection
  • Save it to the Replace Library for future use

This is especially useful for building a custom interface library from real-world cases, ensuring consistency and saving time on future projects.

🛠️ Expert Feature Highlight: Apply Custom Strategies

Available in v2019 and later

This feature allows you to apply custom milling strategies to interfaces stored in your Replace Library. Custom strategies are essential for:

  • Optimizing milling quality based on the unique geometry of each interface
  • Ensuring compatibility with specific materials, machines, or production requirements

Applying a tailored strategy helps achieve higher precision and better surface finish, especially for complex or non-standard designs.

🛠️ Expert Feature Highlight: Customize Sintering Stabilizer Bar Position & Width

Available in v2018 – v2021 and later

This feature allows you to adjust the position and width of sintering stabilizer bars to improve part stability during the sintering process. It’s especially useful for:

  • Increasing surface contact to reduce the risk of tipping
  • Minimizing distortion by aligning the stabilizer with the restoration’s center of mass

If the center stabilizer bar doesn’t align properly with the restoration, you can simply drag it along the Z-axis to reposition it—ensuring optimal support and reducing the chance of deformation during sintering.

🛠️ Expert Feature Highlight: Analyze Thickness in MillBox & FileHub

Available in v2018 and later

This feature enables users to visualize a color-mapped thickness analysis directly on the restoration mesh. When activated, it provides:

  • A color legend showing pre-set and customizable thickness ranges
  • A visual overlay on the object, with colors representing different thickness values
  • Material-specific configurations, allowing each material to have its own unique thickness thresholds

To use it, simply activate the tool and click on any object to display its thickness map. This helps ensure restorations meet minimum thickness requirements and supports quality control before milling.

🛠️ Expert Feature Highlight: Change Machine / Toolset

Available in v2018 and later

This feature allows you to switch the selected machine or tool manufacturer—as long as the machines share the same fixture and personalization code (as defined in machine.arl).

It’s especially useful for setups where:

  • Multiple machines are configured with similar hardware
  • The multimachine.ini file is used to manage machine profiles

This flexibility helps streamline workflows in environments with duplicated or mirrored machines, ensuring consistent output across different systems.

🛠️ Expert Feature Highlight: Change Abutment Angled Holes

Available in v2018 and later

This feature allows you to adjust the angle of angulated screw channels on abutments using a simple drag-and-drop interface. It’s especially useful for:

  • Customizing screw access based on clinical or design requirements
  • Improving tool access during milling
  • Enhancing restoration fit and function

With intuitive controls, you can quickly reposition the screw channel to the desired angle—streamlining the design process and improving final outcomes.

🛠️ Expert Feature Highlight: Copy & Paste Parts

Available in v2018 and later

This feature allows you to quickly duplicate restorations within a project—without needing to re-import the same file multiple times. It’s ideal for:

  • Quality assurance checks
  • Creating product samples
  • Batch production of identical parts

MillBox will even replicate the exact support pin placement from the original restoration, saving you time and ensuring consistency across all copies.
