MillBox Software: Installing, Uninstalling, and Adding Machines
Installing MillBox Software
This brief post will provide a step-by-step tutorial on installing MillBox on a Windows computer.
Before downloading and installing, this tutorial will assume that any third-party software has been disabled or deleted.
This article also assumes that the machine satisfies the minimal criteria for MillBox to run successfully:

Step 1: Download the Installer File
- Login to help.cimsystem.com and go to the downloads section to download the appropriate installer.
RECOMMENDED: While in the downloads section of help.cimsystem.com/downloads/docs/millbox-downloads, it is best practice to go ahead and download the latest core update. This will guarantee that you will have the most recent and up-to-date version of MillBox.
Step 2: Running the Installation file
On the PC, open the download folder and right-click on the installer file you just downloaded.
Once you've got the right-click context menu open, choose "Run as Administrator."
As we can't always guarantee that the account / profile the software is being installed on is an admin account / profile, this action will elevate the necessary privileges to install MillBox successfully.
MillBox will start unpacking the installation files into a temporary folder:
Once that finishes, follow the prompts by hitting "NEXT >":
Once MillBox completes the install, it will then install a free utility called FileHub.
- FileHub is an STL tool and viewer.

- Mesh Repair
- File orientation and rotation
- Ability to measure the object
- View object thickness

You will then be asked to reboot the computer**
**IMPORTANT: If this is the first time MILLBOX has been installed on this PC, you must reboot, as this will complete the installation.
If this is not the first time MillBox has been installed on the PC, a reboot is not necessary.
Step 2a: Installing the Core Update:
- The same installation instructions above apply when running the core update.
**MillBox must be installed first before running the update file.
Step 3: Desktop MillBox Icons
Once the installation has finished, you will notice your desktop now has two new icons.
The MillBox icon is the Standard Version of MillBox.
The MillBox Expert icon will be SUM3D.
To open MillBox, double-click the Standard MillBox icon
Step 4: With a MillBox Dongle:

🗑️ Uninstalling MillBox Software from Windows
To fully remove MillBox and its associated components from your Windows computer, follow these steps carefully:
- Close MillBox Completely
- Ensure that MillBox is not running.
- Check the system tray (bottom-right corner of your screen) for any background processes related to MillBox.
- Right-click and exit any MillBox-related icons or services.
- Open the Control Panel
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type control and press Enter to launch the Control Panel.
- Navigate to:
- Programs > Programs and Features
- (or “Add or Remove Programs” on older versions of Windows)
- Programs > Programs and Features
- Uninstall MillBox
- Scroll through the list of installed programs and locate MillBox.
- Right-click on it and select Uninstall.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the uninstallation process.
- Remove Leftover Files
- Open File Explorer and navigate to the default installation directory:
- C:\MillBox_CIM_25
- If the MillBox folder is still present:
- Right-click the folder and select Delete.
- Confirm the deletion to remove any residual files.
- If the MillBox folder is still present:
- C:\MillBox_CIM_25
- Open File Explorer and navigate to the default installation directory:
🛠️ How to Add a New Machine to an Existing MillBox Installation
If you need to add a new milling machine configuration to your current MillBox setup—without reinstalling or overwriting your existing settings—MillBox provides a built-in method to do this safely and efficiently.
- Close MillBox Completely
- Ensure that MillBox is not running before proceeding.
- Rerun the Original Installer File
- Locate the original MillBox installer file you used during the initial installation. If you no longer have it, you can re-download it from https://help.cimsystem.com/downloads/docs.
- Launch the Installer as Administrator
- Right-click the installer and select “Run as Administrator” to ensure proper permissions.
- Prompt to Add a Machine
- The installer will detect that MillBox is already installed on your system. Instead of reinstalling the software, it will prompt you with the following message:
- “MillBox is already installed. Would you like to add a machine?”
- Select “Yes” to proceed.
- “MillBox is already installed. Would you like to add a machine?”
- The installer will detect that MillBox is already installed on your system. Instead of reinstalling the software, it will prompt you with the following message:
- Confirm the machine you want to add.
- A list of compatible machine configurations will appear. These are based on your license and the installer version.
- Select the Desired Machine
- A list of compatible machine configurations will appear. These are based on your license and the installer version.
- Click on the machine you want to add, then press OK to confirm.
The installer will add the selected machine configuration to your existing MillBox setup.
No data or settings will be lost.
This will add the new machine configuration to your current setup without reinstalling the entire software.
