MillBox - What are the recommended PC Specifications?

MillBox System Requirements

While you can install MillBox CAM on a PC meeting the minimum requirements, we suggest following the recommended system specs to ensure maximum productivity and to avoid production bottlenecks due to the lower / lacking specs of the PC.

Recommended PC Specifications

OPERATING SYSTEM:

Windows 10/11 Professional - 64 Bit (Fully current on Windows Updates)

• Professional versions of Windows are highly recommended. This is because Windows HOME does not give the user access to disable some built-in security features in Windows like Windows Defender and other system components. You can upgrade from Windows HOME to Windows Professional HERE: MICROSOFT.COM

CPU:

Intel Core i7 / i9 (13th generation or newer)
Performance CPUs recommended: 

• Mid-Level: i5 12600K (10 Cores / 16 Threads)
• Performance: i7 13700K (16 Cores / 24 Threads)
• High Performance: i9 1300KS (24 Cores / 32 Threads)
  • AMD: Ryzen 9 7950X3D (16 Cores / 32 Threads)*

CPU Performance scales quite well with SUM3D/MillBox. Higher CPU clock speeds will result in faster calculations and higher thread counts mean that more operations can be calculated simultaneously.

Important Notes:
It is advised to avoid CPUs designed for Ultra-low power (IE: i7-7660U) that are typically found in notebooks or laptops. These processors perform significantly slower than their high performance counterparts. While they can still operate the CAM just fine, noticeable differences exist between the two different types of processors.

MEMORY:

32GB of RAM or more Dual or Quad Channel recommended

Most modern PCs with Windows 11 installed may sit idle using around 16GB of RAM by itself so it's best to have plenty of extra RAM on your PC for the CAM to use for milling operations. If you plan on running multiple instances of the CAM or processing large and complex files, you may consider increasing your RAM to 64GB. Pick your RAM / Memory proportionate to the level of performance of the CPU that you're using. 

VIDEO / GRAPHICS CARD:

Nvidia RTX series graphics card with at least 4GB or more of dedicated video memory (Not Shared/ Dynamic Memory - Avoid AMD / ATI graphics cards)

HARD DRIVES:

HDD Size is discretionary based on how many STL files and Job Files will be stored / backed up on the machine. SSD Hard Drives (Solid State) will help read / write times significantly - Recommend 500GB size or larger.
Highly recommend M.2. Hard Drives that boost read/write times significantly.

MONITOR:

24"+ with Native Resolution of 1920x1080 Pixels or higher. If you plan on running multiple instances of MillBox on the same monitor, we recommend a 25"+ sized monitor with 4k Native Resolution so your object / icons sizes are not distorted.

ANTI-VIRUS / SECURITY SOFTWARE RECOMMENDATIONS

ANTI-VIRUS / SECURITY SOFTWARE: Although we try to keep our software white-listed with major AV / Security software companies but sometimes these may quarantine pertinent .DLL / .ini files and this causes issues in the CAM. If you are in an environment that requires A/V or Security Software, please ensure that the installation directory of SUM3D / Millbox are on the exclusion list as well as the .exe files.
