Prior to importing an object into MillBox, it is crucial to verify that the file's orientation is suitable for milling. Proper occlusal orientation is essential in CAM for proper detection of surface and curves.
An incorrect orientation, such as a flipped part, can result in inaccurate toolpaths, potentially leading to damage of parts and tools. Though ideally, the correct orientation should be established by the CAD software during the creation of the .STL file, this is not always feasible.
In such cases, a complimentary CAM Utility (File Hub) provided with every MillBox installation can be employed to adjust part orientations before importing them into the CAM system.
During the import stage, you can preview the selected object. If the orientation is incorrect, you can access the File Hub by clicking the designated icon to adjust the orientation accordingly.
After clicking the FileHub Icon, it will open File Hub with the STL, the object you want to rotate (2) selected. Here we will click on the 'Rotate the file' icon (3).
Select the option to rotate your part properly (4), in this case we will have to use the Y + 180 degrees.
After selecting the correct option, our object now has a proper orientation
So we can close our File Hub window and continue the import and nesting process in MillBox - Take note, you will see the orientation in the preview windows are now correct:
- If you're noticing your preview isn't resetting properly when back in MillBox, give this a quick try - navigate up one directory, then right back to where you started. This will help reset the STL and Preview window.*
